Friday 29th June

On Wednesday we played ‘Homophone Bingo’. Each child had a sheet with six sentences on it. These six sentences each had a word missing and a picture clue as to what that word was. Each missing word was also a homophone and these missing homophones were called out one at a time. The children had to recognise their missing homophones when they were called out and write them down before calling ‘Bingo!’ if they managed to find all six.

Friday 22nd June

On Thursday we discussed the lyrics to the song ‘This is me’ from the film ‘The Greatest Showman’. We talked about and sang the song before going around the circle getting each child’s personal take on what the lyrics mean to them.
“Just because people are different to you that doesn’t mean you should be mean to them.”
“When people are mean to you, you shouldn’t pay attention to them and carry on.”
“You should be proud to be unique.”
Above are just a few examples of the comments made by the children as we went around the circle.

Class 3’s World Cup

Each child got a clipboard and a pencil and a print off a copy of the group stage fixtures for the World Cup. Once they had changed into their PE kits we went outside where, taking two coins to flip at the start of each match and whoever won the coin toss got to decide the challenge. The challenges were:
1.       Power challenge (one shot at goal from their choice of one of the five distances, the further away they shoot from the more they can score, set up 5 possible distances to shoot at goal from).
2.       Football ten-pin bowling (one shot to knock down as many of the five cones as they can).
3.       Pace and accuracy challenge (one shot to try and get the ball to stop in one of the 5 hoops, the further away the hoop is the more they score).
A miss in any of these challenges meant a score of 0. Coins were flipped to decide who went first. Two were played simultaneously all children recorded the results of the 2 games before we moved onto the next 2. Once the group stages were over the children back came back inside and together we worked out who the last 16 teams were by filling in the tables for each group. We then played out our knockout fixtures before finding out who our eventual winners were. Mexico!

Friday 8th June

This week we've started to read a new book in our English lessons. The book is called 'The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane' and it is a story about a luxury rabbit toy made out of china. In the book we hear the thoughts of Edward (the china rabbit) and he is very interested in himself and how fine he looks in his silk suits and leather shoes, but he is not very interested in anyone else and what they do or say. Another thing we know about Edward Tulane is that he cannot move himself because he is a toy but, mysteriously, the front cover of the book displays a picture where it looks like he is walking. Therefore Class 3 were challenged on Wednesday to perform what they thought a conversation with an Edward that had come to life would go like. Below you can see Class 3 members performing in their pairs.
