Friday 26th January

In today’s maths lesson we were working with multilink cubes, Numicon and Base 10 in order to help us understand area and perimeter. First of all we spoke about what the terms ‘area’ and ‘perimeter’ actually mean and how we measure them. We decided that the perimeter of a shape is the distance around the outside and a shapes area is the total amount of space the shape covers. Then we split into 3 groups, with one group sitting near and using the Numicon, another group using the Base 10 and the final group using the multilink cubes. Below are the questions we had to answer using our resources to help us:

    

Friday 19th January

The pictures you can see above show some more of the fantastic things we've had brought into class that are related to our Africa topic. The instrument and the bracelet are both pieces of home learning that were completed by members of Class 3. A number of Class 3 members have also been cooking some delicious African dishes at home and it has been brilliant to see the pictures and videos they have brought in of themselves doing this. 

The two pictures above show Class 3 children in groups planning a newspaper report. The children wrote their reports on Wednesday and the pictures above show Monday's planning lesson. On Tuesday we wrote a newspaper report together as a class. Our reports could be about whatever we wanted but they had to include the African animal we had been assigned (either a giraffe, African elephant, hyena or baboon).

The pictures above show some of the great art work that Class 3 children have been doing on Wednesday afternoons with Mrs Storer. 

Some fantastic art work has also already been handed in for home learning by some Class 3 members based on our Africa topic.

Friday 5th January

The first two days of term we have been getting ready for our new topic, Africa. The pictures below show some of the things we have been doing.

What you now see before you enter Class 3. 

As you come through the door you will see the African animal collages we have made hanging from the ceiling. 

There are 55 countries in total in Africa and the children, in groups, had to create maps showing the location of all of them! 

Our very own 'Pride Rock' is beginning to take shape, looming over our reading corner.
